About Early Childhood Screening
Our August Early Childhood Screening appointments are currently full.
Appointments for children who are not kindergarten-eligible for the 2026–2027 school year will begin in September. Those appointment dates will be available for registration soon, so please watch our page for updates.
If your child is kindergarten-eligible for the 2026–2027 school year and still needs an Early Childhood Screening, don't worry! We will be offering additional screening appointments at Princeton Primary School during the first couple of weeks of the school year.
If you have any questions, please contact the Early Childhood office. We are happy to help!
WHAT IS AN EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING?
The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are an important time of rapid learning and growth. Early Childhood Screening is a quick and simple check of how your child is growing and developing. Between the ages of 3 and 4, screening can detect possible health or learning concerns, so that children can get help before they start kindergarten. Screening is required before kindergarten and recommended at 3.5 years old.
Does my child need an Early Childhood Screening?
YES - In order for your child to start kindergarten in any Minnesota public school, you will need to provide your child's Early Childhood Screening Summary Form and Immunization record.
Is there a charge?
No, Early Childhood Screening is FREE
What will happen at the screening?
At your child's screening, a trained professional will check the following:
- Vision
- Hearing
- Height/Weight
- Immunization status
- Thinking, language and communication skills, large and small motor skills
- Social & emotional development

Screenings are held at Princeton Family Center - 706 1st St, Princeton, MN 55371
